Harvey, Irma and an earthquake: the aftermath for Exotic Travelers

Over the past month the world has been struck by natural tragedy. Texas was heavily flooded by Hurricane Harvey, while the Caribbean islands and Florida were struck by one of the strongest hurricanes to have ever been registered – Irma. Furthermore, Mexico was shaken by the strongest earthquake to be registered in the country in a century. Here is how Exotic Travelers has coped.

Worrysome members frantically asked about the aftermath of some of the strongest natural disasters to have struck the Caribbean, Mexico and the United States recently. Fortunately, we have nothing but good news to share from Exotic Travelers. Here is the recount of what happened.

Hurricane Harvey

At the end of august, category 3 hurricane Harvey made landfall in the United States ending a record 12-year drought and affecting areas heavily. People in Texas lost their homes and their belongings. Karisma Hotels & Resorts, alongside Exotic Travelers, offered extended stays to members visiting the resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean when airports were closed and people could not fly back home. It was the least we could do in such a tragic situation. But we were far from done.

Hurricane Irma

Not much later, Huricane Irma, one of the strongest hurricanes to have ever been recorded, struck the Caribbean, damaging everything in its path, destroying infrastructures, families, and much more. As one of the strongest hurricanes, complete islands were engulfed, endangering Karisma Hotels & Resorts properties in both the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, as well as Exotic Travelers offices in Florida.

Thankfully, we weathered the hurricane and after having guests evacuated from Nickeldeon™ Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana and Azul Beach Resort Sensatori Jamaica, they were back enjoying their vacations in undamaged structures the day after. The hurricane then hit Florida, were our offices remain closed, but services have been resumed slowly to give the proper and best attention to our members, despite the disaster that engulfs the area.

8.2 magnitude earthquake

On September 8th, a magnitude 8.2 earthquake struck Oaxaca, which was felt all the way in the Caribbean coast in the Riviera Maya. This was the strongest earthquake recored in the country in a century. The damage in Oaxaca and Chiapas was vast, with dozens having lost their lives. Karisma Hotels & Resorts and Exotic Travelers united forces to bring assistance to our friends in the southern states by getting associates to donate food, water, toiletries, medicine, and more at our properties across Mexico to be delivered.

All in all, Karisma Hotels & Resorts and Exotic Travelers weathered these tragedies, but we continue to be on the lookout first and foremost for the safety of our members and our staff.
